Goodbye to the British High Street?
Mar201723

The iconic British high-street has been long been dwindling. Since the closure of some of Britain’s

most iconic shops including Woolworths, BHS and HMV, a number of other popular high-street

brands have followed suite.

78123_shutterstock_329211002

However, despite the recession which sparked the closure of many of the first stores, the more

recent closures are oftentimes pinned down to the increase in online market places. Everything from

finding the perfect outfit for a wedding, to picking up a prescription and even booking our holidays

can now be done online – saving us from a visit to the high street.

Saving you the effort of taking the bus into town, or trying to find parking near the city centre – the

rise of the online high street has made a lot of people’s lives easier. But shopping isn’t the only high-

street staple that has moved online.

Betting shops – once on every high street – are slowly disappearing from cities centres up and down

the country. Thanks to the merger of two of the biggest high street betting shops a number of

betting shops have closed down permanently, however despite the merger many people attribute

the decline of high street bookies to the increase of online booking agents.

Whether you enjoy a game of poker, trying your luck on the fruit machines or you follow the horses

like a religion, online gambling sites offer everything a traditional high street bookies would – as well

as everything you would find in your local casino – from the comfort of your own home.

Long gone are the days of waiting in the rain for the bus, or making a dash through town under an

umbrella – now you can bet on your favourite football team, back your favourite horse or put money

on a game of poker, without having to leave your sofa.

In fact so many online booking agents are popping up, that it can be impossible to know which one

to choose. Many of the best online bookies offer incredible sign up deals, including matched bets,

free bets and free spins. But how do you work out which is best for you?

Not all gambling sites are the same, and not all gamblers are looking for the same games or

experiences – when it comes to sifting through all the different sites and offers, most people will find

themselves confused. Often, a comparison site of all gambling sites will help you to find the best site

for you as well as the best deals for the type of gambling you enjoy.

Once you’ve signed up, there is no reason to drag yourself into town again!

The rise of mobile gaming
Mar201708

While there is a lot of statistical evidence to outline the importance of mobile technology, you only need to look around you to know that smartphones and tablets are part of everyday life. It often looks as though smartphones are permanently attached to people’s hands. Working, shopping, studying, socializing, and gaming are all possible online, and advances in mobile technology mean that there is great convenience in carrying out everyday tasks on a mobile-enabled device.

One area of mobile technology that is hugely important is mobile gaming. Gaming has long been a good way for people to unwind, relax, and have fun in their spare time, and mobile gaming is available no matter where a person is located. The daily commute, waiting for appointments, and even going to the toilet have been enhanced by the ability to play games.

It is the portable nature of mobile gaming that has made it so important. Games console systems are still hugely popular, and while the new Nintendo Switch console will blur the line between traditional console systems and mobile gaming, mobile gaming on smartphone devices will continue to be important.

One of the reasons that mobile gaming has risen in recent years is the breadth and quality of games on offer. No matter what interest a person has, there is likely to be a game based on that interest. There is also a great range of genres covered, so whatever style of game a person enjoys, it is available to buy. There are also many free games to choose from, so people who don’t want to pay money to enjoy gaming on the go can do so.

Casino games and gambling

For many people, mobile gaming provides an opportunity to enjoy casino or gambling-style gaming. This is a hugely popular and lucrative area of online gaming, and the level of competition pushes companies to evolve their offerings and provide a better standard of mobile gaming. There is also competition to encourage players to sign up, with bonus offers such as https://www.onlinecasino.net/mobile-casino-bonuses/ being an example of how companies appeal to mobile gamers.

Fun games

Games such as Angry Birds have become synonymous with mobile gaming, and this franchise has enjoyed more than 2 billion downloads across its series. The game has also become a brand in its own right, with merchandise and films bearing the characters’ likenesses and names. The way that games such as Angry Birds have moved out of the mobile gaming market into the general consumer market is testimony to the connection that people have with mobile gaming.

Conquest and strategy games

You may think that mobile gaming is best-suited to simple games that allow players to play in short bursts, but there have been many mobile games based on long-term strategy and developments. Anyone looking for a more in-depth gaming option will find that there are many games to choose from, with military strategy and tactical games being hugely popular among developers and consumers alike.

Mobile gaming has been one of the biggest success stories in recent years, and there is no indication that the market will fall away anytime soon.

Things you never knew about Valencia
Feb201718

If you are looking to go on a great, interesting holiday this summer then the best advice I can give you is to avoid the packed resorts and head to Valencia instead.

21138083-viVGn

There has never been a better time to visit Valencia, with direct flights from nearly all major European cities at great prices, plus affordable hotels in Valencia makes it even more attractive. If you are looking for great information about the city, you’ll find it here at the official web of Visit Valencia.

The city is blessed with numerous hotels that fit into every budget. Hotels in Valencia range from five star luxury to backpacker hostels. A quick search online will bring up a whole host of choices and I am 100% certain you’ll find the right one, at the right price, for you.

The city has to be one of my favourite, it has a great night-life, amazing culture, shopping and of course there are the sweeping beaches. Here are some interesting things about Valencia that you might not read in the travel brochures.

The Home of Paella

I am sure that everyone reading this article knows what Paella is and have probably tasted it before. It’s the one dish that every tourist in Spain expects to find on his or her holiday. Unless you have been lucky enough to eat Paella in Valencia then you’ve never really tried the ‘real’ thing. Paella is not just a meal but also a part of daily life in Valencia.

Arts and Sciences

The city of Arts and Sciences is a key part of Valencia and performs an important role. The architecture on display is truly magnificent and almost looks like it’s from a sci-fi movie! It’s a must see if you’re in Valencia, if you are lucky enough you might be able to catch a music concert or other great event there. Another interesting fact is that it’s not just a major tourist attraction but also where a great deal of biological and marine research is carried out.

Not everyone is speaking Spanish in Valencia

If you’re like me then you will probably try and learn a few phrases before jetting of to another country on holiday. Of course, Valencia is in Spain and nearly all of the population does speak Spanish, but the official language is Valencian it’s a Catalan dialect. When you meet locals they will always tell you how proud they are of their language. If you can, try to pick up a few phrases whilst you’re there because it will be very much welcomed by the locals!

If you have been lucky enough to visit Valencia I’d love to hear your stories and experiences from this beautiful holiday destination. Just pop your thoughts down in the comment section below this post.

Travel apps everyone should have
Feb201717

I recently downloaded a great new app from HotelsCombined that has made my life so much easier when it comes to booking hotels. All I need to do is open up the app and search for hotels in my destination, use the filters to get exactly the hotel I need and then book – it’s that simple. Being able to look at a long list of hotels and compare the prices takes all of the stress out of planning a trip abroad. It then got me to thinking about the other travel apps that I can’t travel without. There are now 4 on my list, one of which is the HotlesCombined app, here are the other 3:

seven_essential_planning_and_packing_apps_for_travelers

YELP – this application if pronounced sounds almost alike to the sound a donkey makes. It is a very good to go app because it comes in handy as an online guide through the metropolis of any city and directory for important contact information as well as comprehensive reviews on local restaurants, shops, bars and other business establishments that will help you during your stay. It also helps to narrow your searches based on distance, hours, price and you can even get to share your thoughts about the services rendered to you on the usual social networks even as you take a cue from the experiences of others.

GOOGLE TRANSLATE – I’ll describe this as remarkably cool and efficient for me. It is a very useful app that affords the user correct translations on the go between 80 different languages. That is quite a number wouldn’t you agree?

It allows you to listen to translations out loud on your mobile phone and can even pick the words as you type them on screen. And it’s even trendy because you can get to star your favorite words and phrases for offline use.

And lastly XE CURRENCY – you shouldn’t even bother to board any flight without this application handy. It stands out for me as a very accurate currency conversion application since it uses live currency rates. And unlike most currency conversion applications, it is free and its user interface is equally outstanding.

These 4 apps have greatly helped my travels and made them smoother even as they have left my phone smarter and the exciting thing is they are completely free for downloads.

The Best Creepy and Abandoned Places in London
Feb201703

Sometimes the best attractions are the most unexpected ones.  Alongside the compulsory London circuit – Houses Of Parliament, Big Ben, The London Eye and so on this wonderful city has an overabundance of alternative things to see that are most certainly not for the faint of heart.

These five landmarks will all show you a very different side to this wonderfully eclectic city and are all great places for lovers of the creepy and weird to witness all that London has on offer.

Tower Of London

y

Many cities require going underground to witness their dark side, but one of England’s most gory and controversial spaces is actually an extremely popular attraction. The Tower of London was long seen as the country’s most prolific and vicious prison spaces.

It was home to many famous inmates over the years and there are endless tales of gruesome torture and execution taking place within its walls. Perhaps most famously, this is the spot where Henry VIII beheaded two of his wives.

Aldwych Tube Station

You will have definitely spied this station before if you’ve seen any horror films that include an abandoned London subway as part of their setting. The Aldwych Tube station is an eerie and long abandoned location that now offers tours around its derelict and abandoned corridors.

iop

During the Second World War, this ex-tube stop was closed off and used as an air raid shelter, its tunnels converted to store priceless artifacts from the British museum. It was opened again with limited service in later years, before closing its doors for good in 1994. Now it stands as a creepy and exiting tourist attraction for those looking for a good scare!

Ten Bells Pub

The Ten Bells pub is an old and peculiar public house that has been attracting visitors of the supernatural for decades. The bar was a well-known favorite of Jack The Ripper and one that he frequented regularly during his years of terror.
jgjbkh

It was a particularly notable spot in regards to two of his victims: one was thought to have drunk at the pub and another was said to use the pavement outside to pick up clients. There have been many stories of the ghosts of these women visiting the building after dark. The site became so synonymous with the prolific killer that it briefly named itself after him, but was forced to change back after a campaign deemed it inappropriate to commemorate a murderer.

London Dungeon

This interactive exhibit has become a must-see attraction in the city and has been a smash hit with visitors from all over the world. For over 40 years it has been terrifying and delighting audiences. The basic premise of the attraction is a combination of theatrical actors, special effects and rides, which create a truly jaw-dropping walkabout adventure.

cvbn

The story in the exhibit tells over 1000 years of history. Throughout the two-hour duration of the attraction, you are led around by professional actors, who bring you up close and personal with some of the cities most notorious characters. Learn the stories of Jack the Ripper or Sweeny Todd and never see London in the same light again!

These are just a few of the many terrifying spots hidden in the streets of the British capital. Do you know of any other must-visit alternative attractions for thrill seekers in London? Be sure to leave a comment below with your ideas.

Whether you travel regularly with short little bursts around the country or are prone to long trips overseas to foreign markets, technology just made your life easier! How many times have you been in a new place and not understood the language or had no idea how to get to your destination and for some reason, needed a new hotel because the one you’d booked wasn’t to your liking or your reservation got lost in the shuffle? If you travel for business often, here are five apps every business traveler should have. As the old American Express slogan goes, “Don’t leave home without it!”

1. Uber

Not only is the Uber app a way to get a ‘taxi’ service cheaper than the typical city cabs in a number of countries around the globe, it is an app that you have on your phone that practically lets you control when you want to travel without being subjected to a dispatcher that either doesn’t speak the language or doesn’t care that you have a business meeting to attend. With Uber, you simply download the app to your mobile phone, follow the directions and within moments you’ve booked yourself a ride.

2. iTranslate

Then there is the language barrier in many cases. If you often travel to a foreign country and you don’t speak the first word of the language other than perhaps please and thank you, iTranslate will come in extremely handy. The client you are meeting with has a translator on site or they speak English fluently, but it’s the times in between meetings where you suffer the language barrier woes. This app is just for travelers like you.

3. VIDGO TV

One of the things that business travelers miss most when away from home is in having the ability to watch their favorite television shows. With a revolutionary new app, VIDGO TV, you can watch all your favorite shows no matter where you are as long as you have Internet access and a no-obligation pay-as-you-go VIDGO account. You can even watch local TV stations on VIDGO TV which means that you need never miss out on your favorite shows, even when in remote parts of the globe – that is, as long as you have a connection to the web.

4. Evernote

Most of the time you will be working with a team back home or other remote workers as well. Evernote is a way you can keep notes in the Cloud so that you can refer to them later or team members in other locations can access them and jot notes to you as well. Working in the Cloud has become a way of life for travelers, but from scheduling to working with remote teams, Evernote keeps everyone on the same page, reading the same notes.

5. TripIt

Then there are those times when you get halfway through your travels and find that you need to make a side trip or two. With TripIt you can plan your itinerary on the go because it is an app you can download to your cellphone and plot out every step of the way. From lodgings to dining, with TripIt you can plan your own way and then have it on hand to refer to as needed.

These are just five of the apps that every business traveler should have but they are five of the most useful you will encounter. From logistics to entertainment, everything you need to organize will be right there at your fingertips, making life a whole lot easier on the go. While you might also like a weather app or a GPS app, those are usually on your phone, factory installed so they aren’t entirely necessary. Looking forward to your next trip? Don’t leave home without these apps.

What Is It Like To Ride In A Supercar?

Driving in a high performance vehicle is an experience like no other. There are many types of supercar, and each of them have their own special characteristics. Curious about what it is like to ride in a supercar? Read on for a quick guide.

Supercars are vehicles that offer superior performance in terms of speed, power and precision. They can be classified into four key types and these are outlined below.

  1. Limited edition vehicles by top car makers

Think Rolls Royce and Mercedes-Benz. Think high powered vehicles created in limited editions. These supercars are often only around for a short while (one quirky example is the multi million dollar Batmobile limousine that was created, replete with Batman gadgets, in 2012 to commemorate the Batman movies and which is practically identical to that driven by Bruce Wayne on screen) so blink and you’ll miss them.

  1. ‘Everyday’ cars with some modifications

Some supercars are quite simply run of the mill vehicles that have been given new and more powerful engines or other additional features. The experience of driving one of these types of supercar can be pretty exhilarating. Your eyes tell you that you are just getting in to an ordinary Audi or Ford, but the power that you feel as you roar along the road and turn on a penny tells you something else…

  1. Collectors’ items

Some manufacturers create supercars that are especially designed to appeal to supercar enthusiasts. Think engines with tiny little details that only the true aficionado will recognise. These kinds of supercars tend to be created by smaller manufacturers. Riding in one of these will excite your brain as well as your body!

  1. Street racers or ‘muscle cars’

These supercars are usually created by custom retrofitters. They tend to feature racing technology that is adapted for the street rather than the race track. As a result, these supercars are often the vehicle of choice for boy racers or anyone who wants to ramp up the power as they journey through the streets.

The feeling of driving a supercar

Driving a supercar can be described as a real adrenaline rush. Exhilaration, excitement and a sense of freedom will fill your mind as you experience the superior speed and accuracy of these vehicles. Be warned, though: once you have zoomed off into the distance in a supercar, your daily commute to work in your regular vehicle will seem even more boring than usual.

Why not take a super car for a spin yourself?

Don’t just take our word for it: why not see what it is like to drive a supercar yourself? With an Audi driving experience, you can drive a fantastic range of supercars around a race track for a small fee. These experiences also make brilliant gifts for car enthusiasts in your life.

Home Fitness Athletics
Jan201703

I recently came across Homefitnessathletics.com and was impressed by their selection of sporting goods and services and I thought I would do a quick review of them on my blog. I hope you enjoy reading about them as much as I enjoyed shopping here.

What they do

Home Fitness Athletics offers a training center in Heredia Costa Rica for children and adults. They have a variety of classes such as:

  • Karate for children 4 to 12 years old – Thursdays from 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am
  • Karate for teenagers and adults (13 years and over) – Monday and Thursday from 7:00 pm
  • Cross Training (for ages 13 and over only) – Monday and Friday from 6:00 pm and Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 am
  • Athletics Club (for 8 years and over) – Saturays from 7:30am
  • Defence class (13 years and over) – Fridays from 7:00 pm

The classes

Sensei Gabriel Loaiza teaches the karate classes and has 5 years experience as an instructor and over 20 as a practitioner of karate. This teaches self discipline and functional self defense in a controlled environment, which is very useful for people of all ages. A lot of the principles of this can be transferred to other aspects of life.

Cross training is a great class that incorporates many different sporting aspects and these include gymnastics and functional movements, as well as physical, aerobic and mental strength. The classes tailor the exercises to each individual to get the best results, whilst avoiding injuries.

The athletics club is a great way to improve your fitness and is hosted at the running track of San Rafael de Heredia. Athletes are invited to join the other athletes in order to train hard and overcome their own personal goals, whilst maintaining a good level of communication with the coach. This will help the athlete to progress physically and mentally.

Other Products

Home Fitness Athletics also offers a range of quality sports footwear and other sports accessories and these include things like fitness balls, supplements, soccer balls and so much more. I was very impressed by the range of products that they have on the site.

Benefits

It is definitely great to see everything in the one place when it comes to fitness classes and if you are a family you can also benefit from having different classes under the one roof. It is even possible to attend classes with your children, which is a huge benefit.

One of the best things about Home Fitness Athletics is that you can be flexible and pay for 10 or 15 different lessons each month by paying a flat fee. You then have the flexibility to go to any class that you want to, as long as you stay within this limit. Enrolment is also free, so you only pay for what you use!

In the 21st century, businesses are operating within an innovative, internet-centred, technology filled world. Unfortunately, as online interaction becomes fundamental in the world of business, hackers and fraudsters are continuously finding new ways to harm you and your customers. As such, online safety is paramount for all companies, but for none more-so than businesses in e-commerce.

As you celebrate your graduation from startup to SME, don’t forget that your e-commerce business will become more susceptible to online threats. In fact, small businesses are targeted more frequently than larger corporations, largely because the latter tends to invest in more extensive security procedures.

So how can you navigate this minefield and make your e-commerce site safe? To protect your SME, follow these tips:

Pay for Penetration Testing

More commonly referred to as a pen test, the purpose of penetration testing is to seek potential security problems and quantify threats. There are various types and formats of pen tests, but they all aim to find vulnerabilities which could be exploited by hackers.

Unlike other forms of security, a penetration test attempts to create an authentic breach. Professionals act like hackers, exploiting weaknesses and highlighting areas of concern without real-world damage. Once completed, you will be armed with new ways to protect your SME which can help to prevent any future hacks.

Tip: Always choose a pen test company with CREST accreditation, such as Nettitude

Think About the Payment Processes

One of the best ways to protect your SME against hackers, is to minimise the amount of data you store; if the information does not exist, a hacker cannot steal it. This is especially important in terms of payment.

There are a number of precautions that can be taken, including but not limited to: not giving customers the option of storing card information, directing customers to a secure third party gateway to process payments, and using encryption technology to prevent hackers from decrypting sensitive information.

Consider Cyber Insurance

Cyber insurance has been around for almost a decade, but has only recently become more common place. Also known as cyber liability, this insurance is essentially an emergency back-up plan.

Unfortunately, attacks are becoming more common and particularly for SMEs. Just as quickly as new software and deterrents are created, hackers are formulating innovative and sophisticated ways to break through. While there are steps you can take to secure your e-commerce business, should the worst happen, cyber insurance provides cover and protection when sensitive data is stolen.
