Gi2C Internship in China: Scam or Solution?

Interning abroad opens up new international job opportunities for recent grads. However, making that move to a foreign country can be a scary endeavor. Not only do you need to find a company that wants you to work for them and can help you with getting a visa, but you need to find a place to stay and know how handle the daily problems we face in any country. There are several internship providers in China which offer services to international talents looking to work in China. One of the oldest China-based providers is Gi2C Group, which began offering internships in China in 2008.  In the past seven years, Gi2C has helped over 3,000 foreigners safely navigate the tricky waters of life in China.

Based off of reviews from Gi2C interns who have completed their internships in China, the majority of them recommend interning in China to others. Henry interned in China in early 2015 and said, “Do it, come to China, but know that’s going to be different from back home.”

Another Gi2C intern, Pradesh, said that he improved his Chinese while in China and also improved his work skills. He said the process to get his China internship with Gi2C was easy. Step one was to choose an industry. Step two was a Skype interview with Gi2C and sending off his CV. Step three was accepting the job description and company that Gi2C sent to him. Now that Pradesh has finished his internship, his advice to China newcomers is, “Don’t be afraid to apply for an internship in China. China is very different but after a period of time, you’ll get used to life in China.” Other Gi2C intern reviews show again and again that interning in China can be a solution to the age-old problem of needing job experience before landing a full-time job. Gi2C has proven that internship providers in China can greatly help foreigners stay safe in China and make an easier transition to living abroad.

Recently, however, Gi2C has come under attack by someone trying to tarnish the company name. Gi2C, along with one or two other China internship providers, has been added to several scam alert websites. On these sites, an anonymous user who always seems quite upset, focuses primarily on the “Gi2C scam” of charging money for their service of providing internship assistance in China. While it’s true that it is possible to get an internship in China without paying for the services of an internship provider, it must be very difficult otherwise why would so many China interns be using internship providers like Gi2C? The “Gi2C scam” of charging a fee in exchange for a service is also known as operating a business. No business in the world can exist without revenue.

The fact that Gi2C has hundreds of intern reviews written by the interns themselves along with pictures and videos puts this issue of whether or not Gi2C is a scam to rest. It is also highly unlikely that an illegitimate foreign company could operate in China for over six years and not be shut down by Chinese authorities. As past Gi2C interns Henry and Pradesh advised: just come to China, there’s nothing to fear.
