Let the murmur of a waterfall take your honeymoon to another level

Are you still looking for that perfect honeymoon destination that offers an activity range spanning from adventurous jungle walks to relaxing massage sessions? Well, then we might just know where to find the place you are looking for. Because, on the outskirts of the Far North Queensland region in Australia lies a hidden gem that offers all this and more.

Great Barrier Reef

Bloomfield Lodge is an ecotourism initiative that gives you the opportunity to stay in remote luxury lodges with the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest in the backyard and the Great Barrier Reef in the front yard. The idea is to let you enjoy close-up encounters with nature and all its beauty in a way that does not intrude on the surrounding ecosystem.

The resort provides a wide selection of activities to choose from, ensuring you will get the most out of your honeymoon in paradise. Among these, you find the popular Bloomfield Falls located just a stone’s throw away from the lodge in the Aboriginal Wujal Wujal community. The Falls are extra spectacular after the wet season, which ends in May (please note that the Bloomfield Falls are not accessible during the wet season).

So, grab your hubby and go for a picturesque walk around the Falls and see if you can find that perfect spot for a romantic picnic in the wild. But, remember, no matter how tempting it may be to go for a swim, it may not be the best of ideas seeing that the Falls are connected to the Bloomfield River, which is known for housing crocodiles.

Although the Falls are accessible to anyone, the easiest way to get there is to tag along on one of the Lodge’s half-day trips where you first travel by boat to the wharf and then drive by 4WD along the Bloomfield River to Wujal Wujal. From the parking lot, it is only a simple 5-minute stroll to get a spectacular view of the Falls.

If you are interested in hearing more about the Falls and its history while hiking around it, ask the Bloomfield Lodge staff ahead of time and they will be happy to arrange a highly informative and entertaining 30-minute guided tour with an Aboriginal guide. This will give you better insight into the cultural aspects of the area as well as enlighten you about how the surrounding area has been used for medicines and food for thousands of years. If you are brave enough and the season allows, you may even get to try some bush tucker.
