Antarctica: Traveling To The Last Continent On Earth

I recently had the amazing opportunity to travel to Antarctica and to experience the most unique place on the entire earth. Antarctica Travel is not something that you might think of normally, but let me try and convince you why it was one of the greatest (if not the greatest) place that I have ever visited in my entire life.  Read on to find out more about what has become one of my favourite places to visit.

The uniqueness

What I love about Antarctica Travel, is the sense of uniqueness that you feel, the feeling that you are seeing something that very few others have seen before. This makes it one of the best places in the world. It is also crazy to think that it is completely dark there for most of the year and that you are in almost constant light (over twenty hours per day) during the summer months.

It is also a frozen desert, that’s right, it is a desert (not a dessert), because the rainfall is so low that it classifies as one, and because it is so large, it is also the largest desert in the world!

The wildlife

I didn’t include plant life specifically because there is practically none there, the only plants that can actually survive there are things like moss and lichen. Some of these are extremely old and it is amazing to see a total lack of plant life.

The animals to me are extremely fascinating given the environment that they live in. They are not at all shy in a place where there is practically no human exposure. Penguins are the greatest example of this, with their fun loving and curious nature. Aside from the penguins the wildlife is diverse, there are many types of seals, birds and whales.

Endless scenery

Another thing to love about Antarctica is ice as far as the eye can see, you are definitely going to need a very good camera to capture some unforgettable scenery. You will also be charging your camera constantly because you will be taking thousands of photos of the endless stretches of the bluest ice possible, gigantic icebergs and looming mountains.  You will quite literally be seeing the best thing in your life and then something that will beat it at any given moment while in Antarctica.

The other things

Aside from simply seeing all that Antarctica has to offer, you can also interact with the land and seascapes. I was lucky enough to be on a cruise ship that actually allowed you to step foot on the continent and actually camp there, that was something that I really enjoyed. Also it was amazing to get closer to the sea by kayaking in and around the huge ice formations everywhere. It is very difficult to think about how big icebergs are, until you actually see one in person. It is hard to believe that some of these are bigger than large cities! I could talk all day about the things that I did there and how amazing they are, but I hope that you now have some desire and curiosity to discover this unique land.
