We have all seen the film Gladiator, the epic story of a general turned slave and then finding his freedom by becoming a gladiator in the ancient city of Rome. The Roman empire lasted just over 500 years and stretched around much of the world, but let’s fast forward 2000 years and much of that ancient history can still be found standing around this majestic city of Rome, the capital of Italy. With its splendid buildings and ancient history still visible today; the Theatre of Marcellus, Circus Maximus, Baths of Caracalla and probably the most famous of all, the mighty Colosseum.

Although Rome is a grand city and a must see for anyone choosing to visit Italy, Italy also has many more and equally majestic and wonderful places to see, which makes it one of Europe’s top destinations to visit. You could take a gondola trip down Venice’s canals or relax at the Italian Lakes. Drive through the beautiful countryside of Tuscany and visit the medieval city Florence, home to some of Italy’s finest museums and galleries, you could even climb to the top of Giotto’s tower to get some spectacular views.
