Top 3 Places to Visit in Southern Italy: Amalfi, Naples, and Beyond

Italy tours are becoming increasingly popular these days and for good reason! There are so many amazing places waiting for you to explore. If you’re looking for a place to visit this year then make sure the southern region of Italy is one of them.

Here’s 3 of the best that should be on any Southern Italy tours that you choose.

Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy’s top destinations in the summer months. This scenic area showcases some of the world’s best coastline. The cliffs jut out of the sea and you’ll find many a beautiful village built on their edge. I would say that the most famous town here is Positano, made famous by the Hollywood hit The Talented Mr Ripley. If you’re looking for all inclusive resorts for you and your family then head to Amalfi. It’s a great town which is blessed with some really great medieval buildings. You can also go on some brilliant day trips from Amalfi; Pompeii and Capri being the top two.

Matera

Matter is easily in my top 3 favourite places in the whole of the country. The reason for this is due to the Sassi district which dates all the way back to the 13th century. The district is so special hat it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you visit you may even recognise the place because it has been in many major movies, such as The Passion of the Christ, directed by Mel Gibson. I would recommend hiring a car when you visit because it will allow you to explore the region at your own pace. If you’re looking for somewhere unique to stay then take a look at the Cave Hotels.

Naples

This is the largest city in the Southern region and has an array of great sights to checkout. One reason why this city is known throughout the world is because it’s the place that brought us pizza – something I think we should all be grateful for! The best thing to do when you first arrive is stroll around the historic centre of the city. There are endless winding streets full of interesting things for you to do. If you’re visiting during christmas then you’re in for a real treat, that’s because Naples is famed for the lavish nativity displays they put on during the festive months.

As well as the 3 destinations above you should also try your best to include Puglia and Sicily to your itinerary if you have the time.
